Humbling Scrabble Tournament

Very humbling experience.  Although 8-7 doesn't look like a terrible record, considering the average player I played was rated at around 1000, the expectation was that I would do a lot better.  Did my skills decline so badly from 2 weeks ago when I did well above expectations in an "A" division?
Who can really know?  Were my tiles that much better or worse this last weekend?  Did I take lower rated players for granted?  (I only played 4 people rated higher than me and lost to all of them).  It's disappointing because I put a fair amount of time into studying, however I study actual words, not what words come in a rack of  IUUVQW?  So you can't see what's not there.  Even then though, I missed a fair share of

Day 2 3-4 (8-7 +1 overall)  14th place loss of 53 rating points.  I lost to 540 rated player.  I gave up the highest play of the tournament as well as the biggest upset and even the highest loss.  I was more benefit to others than myself!

Successfully challenged ATHNETE and TANTHET (desperation plays).AND GASLINE and drew a challenge to the acceptable word ESERINE.    Did not get away with the phony ENERIC (it's EINERIC), also tried to throw down ERELONGS (as a hook on EXPENDS)
Challenged ULVA (as an out play). 

WONDERMINTS:
Is HENGE good?  (chickened out - so many points missed on that one).  What do i do with INCHERS (correct answer - play INCHERS) also what else did i miss through an E?  Best opening play with the letters AEINJRT?  I know there is something in AAIGOL? through an "N" but it got blocked before i could play it.  Wondered why CONJOB and HANKEYS are good?  (didn't play either. 

There will be good tournaments and bad tournaments.  This one was definitely not me at my best.

Reconciliation February 28, 2019 Phoenix, AZ After almost three weeks in Arizona, I am going home tomorrow, thankfully.  Not that I don't find it pleasant here and the weather has surprisingly turned back to what I expected it to be when I first agreed to this trip, but I guess it is just time to move on. Hot Java - June 14, 2019 Long Beach, CA  Ruminations On Turning 60 Rumination #1:  Meh Rumination #2:  Don't do it, it's a TRAP. Rumination #3:  I'm not particularly fond of any of the platitudes associated with aging as they only seem suited for ad copy in a Senior Living Condominium Community brochure or a  TV commercial for Cialis: 60 is the new 40!
